Valentine’s Day is fast approaching again and if you’re lucky enough to be in a loving relationship it’s time to start making some plans! Whether it’s booking in a dinner date well in advance, a romantic trip to the cinema among the younger generations planning on the same thing (50 Shades of Grey if you’re feeling naughty!), or a trip to the frosty park. Personally, we prefer curling up on of the sofa with a few candles and a home-cooked meal, but we suppose we would say that. Whatever you decide, we have a few great ideas that we’d love to share with you.

The cinema is a classic and a restaurant is always a great choice, but make sure that you book well, well in advance – Valentine’s is one of the busiest days of the year for both. The most important thing though, of course, is what your private life behind closed doors looks (and smells) like. Setting up a comfortable, intimate environment for a romantic night inside will make all the difference between just another night and something special. We have everything you need to make this Valentine’s Day very special indeed. Home is where the heart is, as they say, and how your home smells is just as important as how it looks – if not even more so.

We’ll be using our most romantic and sensual scents for Valentines Day, as well as the ones that our master artisan parfumeurs have suggested have some aphrodisiac properties – it’s not just champagne and oysters, it turns out a lot of scents can have a real and profound effect on anyone’s libido (though champagne and oysters wouldn’t hurt!) One of our favourite candles for Valentine’s Day has to be Yankee Candle’s Sweet Strawberry. With its simple, fruity and luxurious scent, it has a powerful potency to it that is matched by little else. Strawberries – have ‘special’ properties; making them a perfect choice for brightening, scenting and making your space an exciting, exotic place this Valentine’s.

Again – and this seems to be the theme of this blog post – whatever makes you feel most comfortable and romantic and sexy is what you should go for. Whatever your favourite scent is, choose it Valentines Day to get the most out of your romantic occasion, and forget about the rest. Valentines Day should be about you and your relationship, and this is by far and away the most important thing. But that isn’t to say you shouldn’t spend some time treating yourself beforehand. If you’ve been eyeing some presents for yourself that might add some spice to the occasion – not including our very own spicy scents – then go right ahead and get yourself whatever you like. After all, it’s your special day and you should enjoy yourself. It’s only once and year and what else are you going to do in February?

If you don’t feel like doing much at all this Valentines Day, it’s still a great excuse to have a long, relaxing bath with bubbles and slow music and candles. Either on your own or with someone, a long bath is a warming, wonderful experience.

Remember though that as much as everything seems to be telling you otherwise, February 14th is just another day. You should never, ever feel forced to celebrate the special nature and love of your relationship on something or someone else’s terms. Valentine’s Day was invented by Hallmark to sell more cards. Probably. That’s what our dad always told our mother, anyway. Having said that, if you feel like embracing the idea of Valentine’s Day there’s nothing wrong with going with the flow, either – just know that whatever you’re doing should be because you want to.
