Summer is coming here in the UK! We’re looking forward to it – the days are getting warmer and the light is lasting longer and generally everything’s looking that little bit less sad and droopy and wet. Summer is here! And whilst it might bring hay fever to some and sunstroke to others, we are sure we can all agree it’s a great time of the year for one thing in particular – drinking!
So, with that in mind, we thought we’d talk you through a few of our very favourite cocktails for the summer weather. We’ve crowdsourced the office and asked around a bit to pick up a few old favourites, and some others that you may not have heard them. Of course, just like we quality control all of our fragrances, we’ve made sure to quality control all cocktails to bring you the very best experience. *Hiccup*
First off is the delicious and wonderfully colourful Cobalt Margarita. A spin on a timeless classic, this funky drink will get guests talking, and two will get them talking over each other. Recipe as below:
- 1 lime wedge
- fine sea salt
- 4-5 ice cubes
- 1 ¼ measures tequila
- 2 teaspoons Cointreau
- ½ measure blue Curacao
- ¾ measure fresh lime juice
- ¾ measure fresh grapefruit juice
- lime rind spiral, to decorate
Add everything into a cocktail mixer and shake as hard as you can for ten seconds. Frost the rim of a cocktail glass by moistening the glass with a lime wedge and pressing into the salt. Strain the cocktail over ice cubes into the glass and decorate. It’s as easy as that!
Another summer favourite around the office is the sumptuously simple vodka-based Haven cocktail. Here’s the recipe:
- Ice cubes
- 1 tablespoon grenadine
- 1 measure Pernod
- 1 measure vodka
- soda water, to top up
Put a few ice cubes into a glass, then add the grenadine first and the Pernod and vodka second. Top up with soda water and serve.
Another colourful and delicious and summery little drink comes in the form of the Pink Mojito. Invented, as the legend goes, by a group of stranded sailors who found themselves with all the ingredients to make a passable mojito but with only raspberry liqueur from the captain’s stores. Fortunately, they found a way to make it work, for which we are forever grateful:
- 6 mint leaves
- ½ lime
- 2 teaspoons sugar syrup
- 3 raspberries
- crushed ice
- 1 ½ measures white rum
- ½ measure raspberry liqueur
- cranberry juice, to top up
- mint sprig, to decorate
Mix the raspberries, mint leaves, lime and the syrup together in a glass, add the ice and the rum and liqueur, stir well and top up with cranberry juice. Enjoy!
As with any cocktail, you shouldn’t feel like there’s one specific ingredient that you can’t find or you’re limited by your glass selection or whatever other small problem there might be. When all’s said and done cocktails will always be fruit juice mixed with booze, which will almost always be delicious. Make whatever you want to make, sit back and enjoy!
